There’s nothing like crisp and clear November nights in Lahore. Being accustomed to the chill the season brings, it gives more reason to enjoy outdoor evening weather. To get the most out of the evenings what better than warm outdoor lighting and live Barbecue – a perfect evening! That’s what Avari Hotels Australian Food Festival has brought together – Australia’s favorite pastimes; barbecuing and Lahore’s passion and love for Food!

The Australian Food Festival at Avari Lahore was arranged at The Tollington – hotel’s very popular Pakistani BBQ area. We were welcomed with an amazing Australian set-up. Walking through the famous Sydney Opera House, the kangaroos display and the Sydney Harbour Bridge backdrop all gave that Australian feels to the entire place.

Perth based Chef Jesse Hands had flown to Lahore to serve quintessential Aussie BBQ with authentic Australian spices, beef, lamb and seafood all imported from Australia. We were able to get our hands on some of Australia’s best meaty treats offering a fresh Aussie twist to our traditional Lahori BBQ experience.
Australian’s love barbecue or barbie ( as they call it) possibly more than we do. The myriad  of mouth-watering meaty cuts and indigenous flavors highlight the influence of all the ethnicities and the centuries old aboriginals techniques, making modern Australian Food uniquely Australian. It is very different from the spicy Lahori BBQ, the taste and flavors were subtle yet very well balanced. The meat was cooked to perfection.
It was not an all-meat kind of an event it also included some authentic Aussie desserts which were delicious!
I’m a true carnivore and a foodie at heart so my plate was full of all things meat (not guilty!). For me it was an amazing experience to taste authentic Australian Barbecue – sausages, steaks, seafood, lamb and of course the sides to go with it.
If you’re a carnivore at heart too, then this Aussie BBQ and Australian Food Festival at Avari Lahore is a perfect treat for you. You get a full all-you-can-eat spread for Rs. 2499 + tax that includes live Aussie barbecue, salad bar, side dishes and desserts.
Australian Food Festival has definitely brought food lovers in Lahore a taste of the best Australian BBQ!

Restaurant Review: Boneheads

Like art and music, Food has no boundaries, it doesn’t even require visas, permits or passports and yet takes you through a culinary journey to explore new combinations, tastes and flavors.
Continuing on this culinary journey, Lahore just got the taste of Atlanta – Boneheads.

Atlanta-based fast food chain Boneheads specializes in grilled fish and chicken and offers an exclusive range of sauces made with piri piri peppers. With its first ever overseas restaurant opened in Pakistan, Lahore it aims to provide a relaxed place with serious taste to its consumers. Did it actually live up to it? Let’s find out.

One fine weekend, we (my sisters and I) had planned an evening out to spend good time together as we’re all busy all week through. So we decided to first watch a movie and then have dinner at a new place we’ve not tried before.

The movie we planned to watch was Dekh Magar Pyaar Se, while we were excited about it after viewing it’s promos, the excitement soon faded as the movie began and by interval we were like “whose idea was it to watch this movie”? As we all had mutually agreed on watching it so we managed to escape the bashing part. Having a bad movie experience we were a bit skeptical about trying a new place but we still stood by the initial commitment made.

And we ended up at Boneheads(since my sister M had read rave reviews about the place on a Food Group). It’s conveniently located just off MM Alam Road, a beach-themed fast-food restaurant all the way from Atlanta that is best known for its grilled chicken and fish dishes along with some healthy sides. This restaurant positions itself as a healthier alternative to typical fast-food restaurant.

The place is pretty decent with a nice ambience, friendly and courteous staff and live kitchen. I’d say Boneheads is a casual restaurant rather than a fast-food establishment. As we entered we were greeted by smiling staff, we saw a bright and reasonable dining area – it wasn’t something fancy but casual and appealing. The place was busy as it should be on a Saturday evening but not over crowded.  As we breezed through the place to our table, the first thing we saw was their famous “piri piri sauces” already placed on the table. Our server was a friendly fellow who handed us the menu card and helped us in deciding what to order.
We started with their Piri Piri Chicken Wings, as we skimmed through the menu. They were served really quickly, the wings were perfectly marinated in spice blends and then grilled to perfection and were tossed in Piri Piri Sauce of our choice (we chose medium to begin with). The chicken wings were absorbing the sauces which enhanced the flavor and it was such a delicious treat.
As we skimmed through the menu, we found it to be a delicious and a well-sorted menu offering not only grilled chicken and fish but also assortment of tacos, shrimps, salads, burgers and grilled vegetables. A menu that covered everything – a complete one!
After having the wings we were confident in ordering the food and our expectations were quite high. Being a fan of one of its competitors for a long time now, the food had to be really awesome to win our hearts and make us repeat-customers. We all decided to have different dishes so that we can taste them all.
We ordered their Grilled Chicken Breast that came with choice of two sides, Portuguese Grilled Chicken that was smoked and flavorful and was served with fries and boneheads special rice and third item on the order was a Burger (Build your own hand crafted burger) where you build it all yourself.
Talking about the sides, Boneheads offers a diverse selection of side items. It does include the traditional ones, like fries but there are other items such as grilled zucchini, priri piri mushrooms and broccoli. The seasoned rice were sensational and complimented the food well. The burger was as juicy as one should expect, with perfectly grilled patty. What excited me the most in their menu was the choice to build your own salad, your own burgers and the variety they were offering and of course FISH! Though I didn’t try it this time but would definitely do so on my next visit.
Altogether the food has great taste and the blend of spices is perfect on the chicken or fish and if you want to add a little zing to the food their bottles of Piri Piri sauce on the tables is all you need. It has three spice levels medium, hot and extra hot (I tried the extra hot, didn’t find it that spicy but loved it with my food) for those who don’t like food much spicy can try their Lemon and Herb sauce that contains no peppers. The staff was kind enough to offer their Hot Pepper relish to try with the burger and it was pretty awesome.
After a bad movie experience the food at Boneheads literally did set the mood. The beautiful flavors that the Piri Piri sauce bring out in the fish and chicken is the one that you must try. The food served is healthy and flavorful and makes you crave for more.
With a competitor already in the market for some time now, it may be easy to dismiss Boneheads as just another chain on the block, but DON’T! Eat there once to see what they’re offering at such reasonable price. If I were somewhere nearby It would’ve been my everyday lunch place for sure.
Boneheads is definitely a welcome addition to the restaurants arena. In the city that loves food, it’s delightful to see an affordable, healthy and flavorful option on the block.

The Fabulous Birthday

It was my Birthday last Friday and I can proudly say it has been a Fabulous One! Still in my twenties (enjoying another year of being in the 20’s and not feeling so old yet) the excitement for the birthday was the same as I used to have as a kid. That excitement coupled with fun, laughter, happiness and love made it an extra special one.

I love dressing up for my birthday and like every year I decide in advance what I’ll be wearing, what kind of look I’ll go with, what kind of accessories I need and just-everything. This year was no different, I was looking for something orange to add to my summer’s wardrobe and that’s when I came across this gorgeous kurta from Origins-Ready to Wear (see here). The makeup was the usual but I added a pop of color to the eyes and wore a bright coral lipstick shade, and just loved the look. (I’ll do another post with all the details on what I wore on my birthday).

If you’re following me on Facebook you’ll know that me and my sister share the same birthday but were born years apart and we aren’t twins technically but call ourselves Birthday Twins (because we share the same birthday). So the first one’s to wish us is US and our parents of course. This 21st Aug the day was beautiful, birthday excitement was there, dressing up excitement was there and getting birthday wishes and love from Parents made a great start to the day.

And from there the day just got better and awesome and fabulous. Upon reaching work, I was surprised by two starry balloons tied to my chair. That was an adorable gesture and I completely loved it (I love balloons btw) and then we all had Chocobons from Cinnabon for breakfast. It was a fun-filled, chocolicious start of day at work. I’ve got an amazing bunch of people at work, who so lovingly planned it for me and I totally-totally loved it.

and then later in the evening celebrated birthday with the entire office and we all enjoyed the Chocolate cake from Nando’s – that’s a favorite!

God was kind too, the weather in the afternoon got cloudy and it rained till late in the evening. One of my friend’s said, “You poured heavily on us on your birthday” (LOL)

My parents and sister had already planned a BBQ dinner for our birthday, the Leo’s that we are, we both love BBQ! I had my friends over too. Some birthday decor, lighting and props were also arranged that made the birthday much more fun. We all had a photography session where my sister took some really crazy pictures of us. We all laughed till our tummies hurt on our craziness and random jokes but we all had great fun.

The cake was elegant and feminine in pink with a white sugar flower on the top. It was simple, elegant and so delicious, my sister and I both loved it. It was again one of our favorite cake’s from Kitchen Cuisine – Chocolate Fudge Cake.
Enjoyed every bit of it and that all has been added to beautiful memories which will be cherished forever. Feel so blessed to have such wonderful, amazing and fabulous people in my life!
I received a lot of birthday wishes on Facebook, Instagram, through texts, calls and emails. I’m immensely humbled and would like to thank each any everyone of you for remembering it and wishing me. You all made my birthday a Fabulous Birthday! one that I’ll never forget.
Thank you for making me feel special on my day.
Much Love <3
